economy?
I’m talking small time business, we’re not the president here, we don’t want to fork out money we don’t have, I’m talking starting a small business and investing in it as it grows!
This is to Elana, I’m hearing that the average wage in China is 25 cents a day and that we need to start making our own stuff and stop supporting child labor in China! As well as start bettering our economy in America!

Yeah cause foreign products are so much better I buy american made cars period and have never been let down by one so far,and at least I don,t have to worry about my gas peddle sticking on its own and shooting me off into traffic unable to control my self where I may be killed or kill someone else. We had manufacturers here, and then they were run off to country’s with lower taxes and a fraction of the work wage being paid, they had no problem with the wage rises it was also getting hit with taxes they could no longer afford and stay open and they had to make a choice.

  1. I’d love to buy only American goods. If we could produce goods as good as the foreign ones, then I would too. But, if i have to buy a car, I’d rather have a Japanese or German one than an American one. If I need to buy a TV, you get better quality from Sony than…than….um..does the US even MAKE TVs anymore?

  2. No cause our stupid ass Gov. has a thing called free trade agreements with ever other country in the world, but they tax the crap out of businesses here.

Our gov. is screwed up bad.

  3. Americans starting businesses is always good! 2/3 fail, but that means 33% survive. the businesses with great management, cash flow, and attention to detail can survive.
I hope that we will soon bring more manufacturing home. If we have the factories to make stuff along with employees and management that know how, it can happen. Here’s hoping!

  4. Thing is – we depend on foreign markets too. If we stopped buying from foreign markets, we ultimately are cutting back trade in both directions and our own business would suffer.

Moreover, I keep hearing that competition is good – and we should be able to compete with other countries. As as we start to raise the walls, we are admitting that we can’t.

As for starting new business … Hell ya. This is how innovation comes about and how eventually we start winning in the competition.

It will be the Teslas of this world that bring us into the next generation of technology … not the GMs and not even the Toyotas.

  6. Americans have no money to start businesses. There are no American-made goods for them to buy. And even if they do, a big corporation will swoop in, buy them up, and ship the jobs overseas. ?°)

  7. America faces the same issues all developed economies face – cheaper labour costs in third world countries. There’s no way a manufacturer of basic goods (cars, TVs, washing machines etc) in a developed economy paying its workers $30 @ hour can compete with a country that pays its workers $2 @ day.

Developed nations have to get smarter about what they make – allow China/India/Brazil etc make the simple stuff and get on with the job of developing value added industries. Like, for example, green energy technologies.
